Poplar Island

Did you know that we have six small, green students who live in water here at Hebron-Harman?

It's true! Our school provides a temporary home for diamondback terrapins through the long, cold winter. In June, they will be returned to their homes off the coast of Poplar Island in the Chesapeake Bay.

In addition to being the official state reptile and the mascot for the University of Maryland, diamondback terrapins are extraordinary animals.

Want to learn more? Students from Mrs. Stafford's class worked with Mrs. Jones to create web pages dedicated to these wonderful creatures.

Use the navigation bar on the left to learn more about our terrapins!
